The National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, is organizing its first ever International Student Animation Festival CHITRAKATHA on the 25th, 26th and 27th of October, 2007.

Chitrakatha 2007

Established in 1961, NID is a four decade old pioneering institute with a holistic approach to imparting knowledge. The academic community at the institute has developed a commendable system of education which lays more emphasis on learning than on mere instruction.

The focus of CHITRAKATHA 2007, unlike most other animation festivals, is on animation as an art form and education rather than the technology and business aspect of it. Entries are invited in any format from animation students from around the world. The duration of the entries can be from ten seconds to ten minutes. You can download the forms here. The submission deadline is 25 Sept. 2007

In the words of Prakash Moorthy, first animation alumni of NID, Chitrakatha is an International Animation Film Festival that celebrates and encourages original content from our region. Art reflects society, its goodness, wants, ills and most importantly, a desire and design for change.”

The aim of CHITRAKATHA ‘07 is to promote and spread the art of animation through the screening of films as well as through the various activities organized during the event like – round tables, seminars, workshops, exhibits, publications etc.

In a telephonic interview, Festival Director Mr. Sekhar Mukherjee said “The festival, which is an extension of NID´s educational philosophy will provide an opportunity for students, independent animators as well as those from the industry to interact and share experiences. The aim is to inspire and motivate budding animators who will define the future of the animation industry in India. “What qualifies as good animation education? Who is a good animation teacher? And above all, what is good animation?” These and several other pertinent questions will be addressed during the 3 day festival.”

The programme details will be announced very soon and will be posted here on All About Animation.
